Monitoring Engineer
We at randstad are seeking a personable, confident, and technically adept Monitoring Engineer to support our operations and project management teams. In this varied role, you will act as a key point of contact for the client and the public, taking full responsibility for the end-to-end lifecycle of geotechnical instrumentation and structural monitoring systems.
From equipment procurement and subcontractor management to precise installation, data analysis, and client presentation, you will ensure that critical data is delivered accurately and safely within highly regulated engineering environments.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee the supply, asset tracking, installation, and commissioning of specialized geotechnical and structural monitoring instrumentation.
- Collate, interpret, and monitor structural and geotechnical data utilizing specialized visualization software (gtcvisual).
- Ensure meticulous data management, including the recording, filing, and structured archiving of all project data.
- Author robust project documentation, including Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Activity Briefings, and formal Commissioning Installation Reports.
- Champion safe working practices across site operations by actively implementing procedures to identify, reduce, and remove site and safety hazards.

Client, Subcontractor and Team Management
- Supervise, coordinate, and monitor the performance of specialist subcontractors on-site.
- Act as a vital liaison between site supervisory staff, clients, and public stakeholders.
- Attend formal data review meetings, confidently presenting technical findings and monitoring information to client teams.
- Assist in managing and coordinating site operatives effectively to maximize productivity, performance, and team motivation.
Corporate Compliance and Development
- Commit to continuous professional development (CPD).
- Actively uphold and comply with Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policies in strict accordance with FREDIE (Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement) principles.
Essential Criteria
- Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, with advanced computer literacy and high proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Domain Knowledge: A solid foundational knowledge of geotechnical engineering concepts and site best practices.
- Certifications: Valid CSCS Card holder and CPCS Appointed Person card.
- Communication and Aptitude: Excellent technical writing and presentation skills, combined with strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
- Soft Skills: Outstanding interpersonal skills across all management levels; personable, confident, and highly capable of working effectively under pressure.
- Commercial Literacy: Familiarity with standard contract conditions and the mechanism for reporting contractual variations.

Desirable Criteria
- Education: BEng/MEng or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a closely related discipline.
- Sector Experience: Prior hands-on experience working specifically within a dedicated monitoring, surveying, or instrumentation-focused role.
