Monitoring Surveyor

As a Monitoring Surveyor at Survey Solutions, you will work independently completing small to large scale monitoring projects, both manual and automated sensor-based solutions. You will have acquired previous practical experience and technical knowledge of land surveying through a technician role on small and medium projects.

You will work independently on varied monitoring projects, installing, maintaining and decommissioning monitoring programmes on site using innovative technology and processing data in the office to a high working standard.

On larger projects, Monitoring Surveyors will take the lead with approval from the Monitoring Manager and deliver reliable and robust monitoring solutions.

Monitoring Surveyors will be motivated to progress their career with Survey Solutions, developing expertise in automated solutions, IoT monitoring systems, advanced scanning and heat mapping technologies where applicable, with future development into geotechnical monitoring solutions.

Requirements

Main Duties / Key Responsibilities

Technical

  • Complete all sizes of manual monitoring projects independently and to a high standard, offering robust and repeatable solutions with backup stations and full understanding of manual measurement procedures.
  • Conduct manual monitoring installations and routine monitoring readings ensuring accuracy, repeatability and consistency of recorded data.
  • Apply knowledge to contribute to justification of appropriate monitoring methodologies and project specifications regardless of project size.
  • Work independently under guidance from the Monitoring Manager and operations coordinators on a catalogue of varying projects
  • Process monitoring results to a consistently high and uniform standard.
  • Produce reports showcasing monitoring data, including environmental elements including noise, dust and vibration
  • Contribute effectively to the successful delivery of monitoring projects with minimal supervision.
  • Understand project scopes of work and ensure delivery to exact client specifications.
  • Maintain monitoring equipment to a high working standard ensuring all equipment remains fit for purpose.
  • Set up monitoring instruments, record data and provide logistical support to other monitoring surveyors where required.
  • Carry out levelling surveys and maintain high levels of precision for settlement and movement monitoring programmes.
  • Installation, maintenance, recommendation and decommissioning of contact sensors including:
    • Noise monitoring
    • Dust monitoring
    • Vibration monitoring
    • Tilt monitoring
    • Deck monitoring
    • Automated crack monitoring
    • Accelerometers
  • Perform physical installation and maintenance of monitoring systems requiring practical hands-on experience using drills, fixings and installation tools.
  • Conduct repeat verticality checks on structures and masts, and produce accurate monitoring records.
  • Support installation, operation and maintenance of Automated Total Station (ATS) monitoring solutions.
  • Support automated monitoring systems and assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of automated equipment.
  • Assist with deployment, maintenance and exploration of IoT-enabled monitoring systems where required.
  • Interpret monitoring data and issue formal reports on:
    • Structural movement
    • Noise monitoring values
    • Dust monitoring values
    • Vibration monitoring values
    • Tilt movement trends
  • Manage monitoring datasets using Excel, ensuring accurate data entry, graph production and reporting output.
  • Use CAD software to support monitoring layouts, technical drawings and project deliverables where required.
  • Provide education and mentoring on basic manual monitoring solutions to Monitoring Technicians.

  • Continue enhancing technical surveying skills by seeking advice from experienced surveyors and utilising internal training resources.
  • Attend training and development days to improve knowledge of monitoring techniques, emerging technologies, automated monitoring systems and data processing solutions.
  • Develop technical capability across advanced monitoring technologies including automated monitoring systems, sensor-based monitoring and IoT monitoring solutions.
  • Provide feedback to line manager during regular progression reviews.

Health & Safety

  • Follow Survey Solutions health and safety policies and procedures outlined within the H&S Manual.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety and public welfare.
  • Undertake site inspections and complete dynamic risk assessments when attending site.
  • Ensure required safety measures are in place before commencing work.
  • Conduct monthly vehicle checks ensuring company vehicles remain in safe working condition.
  • Operate handheld installation tools safely and responsibly in accordance with site safety requirements.
