Mortgage Underwriter – Home Finance Team

Job Title & Overview

We’re recruiting for a Mortgage Underwriter to join our Home Finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and process medium to high-risk or complex cases within agreed mandates.
  • Review applications to ensure risks are understood, documented, and managed effectively.
  • Engage with customers and third parties (via phone, email, or correspondence) to gather required information.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions align with regulatory expectations, audit standards, and company guidelines.
  • Mentor and support colleagues, sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Analyse underwriting data to spot trends, insights, and areas for improvement.
  • Pace workflow to meet daily service targets and monitor case progression.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners for seamless business/customer outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in mortgage underwriting (essential).
  • Strong analytical skills—capable of evaluating risk and making balanced, data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Confidence engaging with customers and stakeholders across multiple channels.
  • Ability to organise and manage workload efficiently in high-pressure environments.
  • A collaborative mindset with a focus on supporting and developing others.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, trend identification, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements (e.g., AML, data protection, Treating Customers Fairly—TCF).
