Job Title: Mortgage Underwriter
About the Role We’re recruiting for a Mortgage Underwriter to join our Home Finance team. We offer a competitive base salary and a supportive environment where diverse perspectives are valued.
As an Underwriter, you’ll assess complex mortgage applications, making informed decisions while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders. Your expertise in risk assessment and customer-centric outcomes will drive efficiency and fairness.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess and process medium to high-risk or complex underwriting cases within agreed mandates
- Review mortgage applications to ensure risks are clearly understood, documented, and managed
- Communicate with customers and third parties via phone, email, and written correspondence to gather necessary supporting documentation and information
- Ensure all underwriting decisions align with regulatory guidelines, audit standards, and best practices
- Support and mentor colleagues by sharing knowledge, best practices, and procedural guidance
- Analyse underwriting data to identify trends, assets and risks, and potential process improvements
- Manage your workflow efficiently while monitoring service levels to ensure timely case progression
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to optimise business and customer outcomes

Requirements & Qualities
- Experience within Mortgage Underwriting (any lender)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to:
- Evaluate risk
- Make informed, balanced decisions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ** meticulous attention to detail**
- Confidence in engaging with customers, stakeholders, and third parties across various channels
- Strong organisational ability and workload management in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative attitude, with a commitment to supporting and mentoring others
- Comfort conducting data analysis and identifying operational trends to drive continuous improvement
- Awareness of regulatory requirements, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
- Data protection (GDPR/FDWR)
- Fair treatment of customers
