Responsibilities

  • Assessing and processing medium to high-risk or complex underwriting cases within approved mandates
  • Reviewing applications to ensure risks are understood, documented, and managed appropriately
  • Gathering information via phone, email, and written correspondence from customers and third parties
  • Ensuring decisions align with regulatory guidelines, audit standards, and internal policies
  • Mentoring colleagues by sharing knowledge, best practices, and guidance
  • Analysing underwriting data to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for improvement
  • Managing workflow and monitoring service levels to ensure timely progression of cases
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to support business and customer outcomes

Requirements

  • Proven experience in mortgage underwriting
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and make informed, balanced decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a keen attention to detail
  • Confidence engaging with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
  • Robust organisational skills to effectively manage workloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to support and develop others
  • Comfortable working with data, identifying trends, and contributing to continuous improvement
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements, including AML, data protection, and fair customer treatment
