MOT Tester
MOT Tester – Halfords Automotive
On-target earnings up to £43,470
- Base salary: £36,770
- Uncapped monthly bonus scheme (average additional earnings of £6,700 per year)
- 5-day workweek (centre closed on Sundays)
Bonus opportunity: Extra earnings via our refer a friend scheme (T&C’s apply).

About the Role
We’re expanding our automotive services with a strong focus on motoring and electric mobility. You’ll be an essential part of our UK-wide network, ensuring vehicle safety through MOT testing, while also supporting general light vehicle maintenance when needed. A strong team player with hands-on experience will thrive in this dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct MOT tests in line with DVSA standards for all classes of vehicles
- Assist in light vehicle maintenance during non-testing hours
- Work efficiently in a structured environment with minimal supervision
- Maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service
- Carry out general cleaning, inspection, and administrative tasks within the workshop

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Current MOT testing licence (If you don’t have one, consider our Mechanic/Technician roles—contact careers@halfords.co.uk for details)
- Fully licensed to drive (UK licence) with no more than 9 penalty points
- TEAM-MINDED – Willing to adapt and support others when required
Preferred Skills
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics (no prior testing experience required)
- Ability to work unsupervised with minimal guidance
