An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Motor Fleet Existing Business Senior Underwriter to join our established and successful Motor Fleet team in Birmingham.
About the Role
You will be at the heart of key broker relationships, focusing on retaining and developing our existing Motor Fleet portfolio. Working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders, you will deliver strong underwriting outcomes, excellent service, and sustainable growth across the account.
- Location: Birmingham (hybrid working with 2–3 days in the office per week)
- Salary: Circa £50,000 – £55,000 per year
Responsibilities
As a Motor Fleet Existing Business Senior Underwriter, you will:
- Manage and retain an existing portfolio, delivering timely, accurate, and profitable renewal terms
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships through negotiation and excellent customer service
- Handle mid-term adjustments, policy amendments, and renewal activity under underwriting authority
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with risk appetite, pricing strategy, and portfolio objectives
- Check, issue, and manage policy documentation accurately and within service levels
- Develop technical underwriting capability via learning, feedback, and mentorship
- Contribute to the internal UWQA audit team

Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience underwriting Motor Fleet risks, with a strong understanding of existing business and renewals
- Ability to evaluate risk, apply underwriting judgement, and manage portfolio performance
- Proven ability to build and maintain trusted broker relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail, analytical skills, and a proactive mindset
- Coaching & development skills to support junior underwriters
- Ability to undertake senior account responsibilities, including additional tasks
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in an existing business/retention-focused underwriting role
- CII qualifications or commitment to accreditation
- Experience with agreed underwriting authority levels
- Knowledge of responsible AI usage
