Moving & Handling Specialist Assessor / Trainer

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with specialist Moving & Handling skills to join our Specialist Moving & Handling Team at West Northamptonshire Council.

This community-based role involves working directly with people with physical disabilities, supporting them to live safely and as independently as possible. You will:

  • Conduct assessments within the community, evaluating clients’ moving & handling needs
  • Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers, carers, and providers to deliver personalised outcomes
  • Ensure best practice in moving & handling across the workforce, improving care quality, safety, and sustainability in West Northamptonshire

Interviews will be held on 15th July 2026.


Key Responsibilities

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, requiring an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also subject to a Children and Adults Barred List (CAB) check. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable adults.

Your duties include:

  • Conducting specialist moving and handling assessments for clients with physical disabilities and complex needs
  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing safe, person-centred moving and handling plans
  • Managing your own caseload efficiently
  • Collaborating with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Providing expert advice on techniques, equipment, and risk mitigation
  • Training, coaching, and supporting carers, providers, and colleagues in safe practice
  • Monitoring adherence to best practice, addressing poor handling techniques, and escalating safeguarding concerns

The role is field-based, working 37 hours per week (Monday–Friday).

Essential Requirements

You will bring the following experience and qualifications:

  • ROSPA Level 3 Moving & Handling Train the Trainer qualification (or equivalent)
  • A Level (or equivalent) qualification
  • Hands-on experience in health & social care, including moving and handling assessments and plan development
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, equal opportunities policies, and best practice

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle (with valid business insurance) is essential.
