Moving & Handling Specialist Assessor / Trainer

About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with specialist Moving and Handling skills to join the Specialist Moving and Handling Team at West Northamptonshire Council.

This is a community-based role in which you will work directly with people who have physical disabilities, supporting them to live safely and as independently as possible.

You will visit clients in the community to assess their moving and handling needs, working collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers, carers, and service providers to achieve the best possible outcomes for each individual.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will play a key part in improving the quality, safety, and sustainability of care across West Northamptonshire. You will carry out specialist assessments, provide expert advice, and promote best practice in moving and handling across the workforce.

Your Duties Will Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Completing specialist moving and handling assessments for customers with physical disabilities, including those with complex needs.
  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing safe, person-centred moving and handling plans while managing your own caseload.
  • Working closely with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers, and other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Providing specialist advice on techniques, equipment, and risk management to support independence and, where appropriate, reduce care requirements.
  • Training, guiding, and coaching carers, providers, and colleagues in safe moving and handling practices.
  • Monitoring practice, addressing poor practice, and escalating safeguarding concerns where required.

This is a field-based role, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle with business-use insurance are essential for this role.

About You

A confident, approachable, and people-focused professional is required who enjoys working directly with individuals, carers, and other professionals. The successful candidate will build positive relationships with ease, communicate clearly and sensitively, and be comfortable working with people who have physical disabilities and complex needs.

The role requires confidence in completing moving and handling assessments and developing safe, person-centred plans, alongside an enthusiasm for training and development. Experience in delivering training, coaching carers and providers, and promoting best practice in a clear and supportive manner will be essential. Strong organisational skills are needed to manage a caseload effectively, while balancing independent working with collaboration as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
