MP&L Manager

Materials, Planning & Logistics (MPL) Manager – Advanced Manufacturing Organisation

Owen Daniels are supporting an established advanced manufacturing organisation seeking an experienced Materials, Planning & Logistics (MPL) Manager to lead end-to-end materials execution, production planning, inventory control, and site logistics operations.

Operating within a highly regulated manufacturing environment, this role is critical in ensuring:

  • Materials availability
  • Schedule adherence
  • Operational performance
  • Alignment with business objectives around quality, compliance, customer delivery, and continuous improvement

The role reports to senior site leadership and involves:

  • Leading a multi-functional team across planning, stores, warehousing and logistics
  • Acting as a key stakeholder in the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process

This is an ideal opportunity for a supply chain leader who:

  • Combines strategic thinking with strong operational execution
  • Excels in driving performance through people, process and systems

Key Responsibilities

Production & Supply Chain Execution

  • Lead all site materials management, production planning, warehousing and logistics operations to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing
  • Translate medium and long-term demand plans into short-term execution strategies, prioritising:
    • Schedule attainment
    • Customer delivery performance
  • Manage production scheduling, aligning operational capacity, material availability and customer requirements
  • Develop and maintain robust inventory management processes delivering:
    • High stock accuracy
    • Inventory optimisation
    • Strong working capital performance

Logistics & Distribution

  • Oversee warehouse, stores and internal logistics operations, ensuring:
    • Efficient material flow (from receipt to point of use to final shipment)
    • On-time customer commitments
    • Cost-effective freight performance
  • Lead shipping and distribution activities, focusing on:
    • Meeting delivery commitments
    • Maintaining low-cost freight solutions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Procurement and Customer Service to:
    • Proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks and constraints
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for:
    • Production continuity issues
    • Delivery performance challenges
    • Operational plan executions

SIOP & Continuous Improvement

  • Support and enhance SIOP/S&OE processes, ensuring alignment between planning, operations and commercial functions
  • Champion Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives, implementing:
    • Value stream mapping
    • Visual management
    • Standard work
    • Root-cause problem solving

Systems & Operational Excellence

  • Maintain governance and accuracy:
    • Across ERP and planning systems
    • Including master data, inventory transactions and reporting
  • Lead improvements in operational systems and processes, including:
    • Participation in ERP enhancement/implementation projects

Indirect Procurement & Cost Control

  • Manage indirect purchasing and MRO inventory controls to support:
    • Operational reliability
    • Cost management

Team Growth & Performance

  • Provide leadership, coaching and development to a team comprising:
    • Planning specialists
    • Stores personnel
    • Warehouse and logistics staff
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on:
    • Accountability
    • Collaboration
    • Continuous improvement
  • Establish clear objectives, performance measures, and succession plans

About You

We’re seeking a polished and commercially aware supply chain professional with:

  • Proven track record leading Materials Management, Supply Chain, Planning or Operations roles
  • Strong ability to operate at strategic and operational levels, balancing:
    • Influencing senior stakeholders
    • Execution and performance focus

Experience Required

Core Leaderips

  • Significant experience in Materials Management, Supply Chain or Operations leadership roles
  • Demonstrated success leading teams in manufacturing environments, particularly within:
    • Highly regulated industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, life sciences, advanced engineering, electronics or defence manufacturing

Technical & Functional Proficiency

  • Deep understanding of:
    • Production planning
    • Inventory control
    • Warehousing
    • Logistics and material flow principles
  • Hands-on experience in SIOP/S&OP processes
  • Proven ability to deliver measurable improvements in:
    • Inventory performance
    • Service levels
    • Delivery efficiency

ERP & Process Knowledge (Desired)

  • Strong exposure to:
    • ERP implementation projects
    • Optimisation efforts
    • Business transformation initiatives
