Materials, Planning & Logistics (MPL) Manager
Owen Daniels are supporting an established advanced manufacturing organisation seeking an experienced Materials, Planning & Logistics (MPL) Manager to lead end-to-end materials execution, production planning, inventory control, and site logistics operations.
Operating within a highly regulated manufacturing environment, this critical role ensures materials availability, schedule adherence, and operational performance while supporting broader business objectives for quality, compliance, customer delivery, and continuous improvement.
Reporting to senior site leadership, the successful candidate will oversee a multi-functional team covering planning, stores, warehousing, and logistics, while collaborating as a key stakeholder in the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process.
This opportunity is ideal for a skilled supply chain leader who excels in strategic thinking, operational execution, and driving performance through people, processes, and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Core Operational Leadership
- Lead site materials management, production planning, warehousing, and logistics activities to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
- Convert medium/long-term demand plans into effective short-term execution strategies, optimizing schedule attainment and customer delivery performance.
- Oversee production scheduling, aligning operational capacity, material availability, and customer demand.
- Develop and maintain inventory management processes to achieve:
- High stock accuracy
- Inventory optimisation
- Strong working capital performance

- Drive warehouse, stores, and internal logistics operations, ensuring efficient material flow from goods receipt to final shipment.
- Manage shipping and distribution activities, balancing customer commitments with cost-effective freight performance.
- Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Customer Service teams to preemptively address supply chain risks.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for issues affecting production continuity, delivery performance, and operational plans.
- Support and enhance SIOP/S&OE processes, ensuring aligned communication between planning, operations, and commercial functions.
Continuous Improvement & Systems
- Champion Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives using tools like:
- Value stream mapping
- Visual management
- Standard work procedures
- Root-cause problem-solving
- Maintain governance and data accuracy across ERP and planning systems, including:
- Master data integrity
- Inventory transaction accuracy
- Planning parameters and reporting structures
- Lead improvements in operational systems and processes, including participation in ERP enhancement or implementation projects.
Indirect Procurement & Inventory Control
- Manage indirect purchasing and MRO inventory controls to support operational reliability and cost management.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for cross-functional teams in planning, stores, warehouse, and logistics.
- Foster a high-performance culture built on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear objectives, performance KPIs, and succession planning for the team.
- Build capability through mentoring, training, and structured development initiatives.
- Strengthen cross-functional relationships to align priorities and achieve business objectives.

About You
We are seeking a commercially astute supply chain professional with a proven track record in leading Materials Management, Planning, and Logistics functions within regulated manufacturing sectors. Ideal candidates will balance strategic vision with hands-on execution while influencing senior leadership stakeholders.
Experience Required
- Significant managerial experience in Materials Management, Supply Chain, Planning, or Operations leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success leading teams in a manufacturing environment, particularly within regulated industries such as:
- Aerospace
- Automotive
- Medical devices
- Life sciences
- Advanced engineering
- Electronics
- Defence
- Highly controlled industrial manufacturing
- Deep understanding of:
- Production planning
- Inventory control
- Warehousing strategies
- Logistics and material flow optimisation
- Hands-on experience in SIOP/S&OP and operational planning processes.
- Proven ability to deliver measurable improvements in:
- Inventory optimisation
- Service levels
- Delivery performance
- Operational efficiency
- A plus for exposure to ERP implementation, optimisation, or business transformation projects.
