Multi Profession Rehab Assistant (MRPA) (Stroke)

Multi-Profession Rehabilitation Assistant (Fixed Secondment, 8 Months) – North Wales, BCUHB

North Wales and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) are expanding their stroke services, offering an exciting fixed-term secondment opportunity for a Multi-Profession Rehabilitation Assistant (MPRA) to join the Acute Stroke Team.

About the Role

THIS POST IS FIXED-TERM/SECONDMENT for 8 MONTHS to support stroke service delivery.

URGENT NOTE: If you are interested, you must obtain permission from your current line manager before applying.

You’ll play a key role in delivering holistic rehabilitation services, working closely with:

  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Dietitians

As part of a multi-professional team, your aim will be to support and enhance recovery for stroke survivors.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about neurological rehabilitation
  • Committed to empowering individuals
  • Self-motivated, compassionate, and adaptable
  • Willing to continuously learn new skills

Recent (preferably 2+ years) experience in a therapy health care setting is essential, along with proficient computer skills (as documentation is fully electronic).


Key Responsibilities

You will assist in delivering rehabilitation with a holistic approach, under the supervision of qualified therapists, including:

  • Implementing therapy programmes for stroke survivors
  • Facilitating daily rehabilitation and acute care, adhering to national standards
  • Conducting and documenting individual therapy sessions
  • Collecting audit data (e.g., updating the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme e-database)
  • Supporting ongoing stroke service development across North Wales

Location: Primarily Glan Clwyd Hospital, with potential to support Emergency Services Delivery (ESD) and Rehabilitation services in Conway/Denbighshire as required.

Language Skills: Welsh language skills are desirable, but applications in English or Welsh are equally welcomed.

Detailed Job Requirements

Person Specification

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in a therapy healthcare setting
  • Able to promote independence and its impact on health and wellbeing
  • Clear understanding of:
    • The roles of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists, and Dietitians
    • Rehabilitation concepts within stroke recovery
    • Knowledge of major stroke-related conditions and their effects
    • NHS healthcare environment experience

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with stroke survivors

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Level 3 Quality Credit Framework qualification (e.g., NVQ or OCN) in Health & Social Care
  • Documented training participation
  • Proven experience at diploma-equivalent level in relevance to stroke/specialist therapy
  • GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language (and literacy/numeracy proficiency)

Desirable:

  • Membership of a professional body or special interest group
  • A Level 4 qualification in a relevant clinical field
