The Role
We are looking for a proactive and skilled Shift Engineer to support the safe, efficient, and reliable running of our processing and packaging plant in Bardney, Lincolnshire. In this position, you will play a key role in maintaining equipment performance by completing planned maintenance, responding promptly to breakdowns, and working closely with engineering managers and the wider team to minimise downtime and keep production running smoothly.

This role operates on a rotating shift pattern, of Earlies (06:00–14:00), Afters (14:00–22:00, finishing at 21:00 on Fridays), and Nights (22:00–06:00, Monday to Thursday). This equates to an average of 37 hours per week. You will be expected to work flexibly across these shifts to support operational needs and some overtime may be required dependant on business needs.
A core part of the role is upholding high standards of safety, quality, and hygiene, ensuring these are consistently maintained and improved. You will also be actively involved in identifying and delivering continuous improvement opportunities, whether focused on productivity, ways of working, or value-adding engineering solutions.
Strong communication is essential, and you will complete thorough job and shift handovers to ensure important information is accurately shared across the team. You will take responsibility for maintaining your technical skills and contributing positively to a high-performing engineering culture. From time to time, additional duties may be required by Engineering Managers, or the wider Site Management Team.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Engineer with a recognised apprenticeship in either electrical or mechanical engineering, supported by NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent technical certifications. You will bring a strong commitment to safe working practices, with a track record of maintaining high safety, quality, and hygiene standards in previous roles.

Experience within an FMCG or packaging environment is highly desirable, as is confidence in diagnosing and resolving machine performance issues on a day-to-day basis. Candidates with PLC knowledge or experience will be particularly well suited to the role, although this is not essential. We are looking for someone who demonstrates personal accountability and takes pride in their work.
You should be comfortable interpreting performance data, identifying opportunities for improvement, and showing evidence of where your actions have delivered meaningful results. A continuous improvement mindset is key, along with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues across shifts.
