Multi-Skilled Engineer
Shift Engineer (Including Electrical Engineer)
12-hour rotating shifts (days and nights) | £50,000 per annum Department: Maintenance Reports to: Reactive Maintenance Manager (RMM)
Overall Role Purpose
The objective of the department is to perform preventive and corrective maintenance in both electrical and mechanical disciplines, ensuring tasks are carried out swiftly, adhere to safety policies, and conform with required specifications to achieve the factory’s reliability KPI—reducing unplanned downtime.
The Shift Engineer reports to the Reactive Maintenance Manager (RMM) and works collaboratively with colleagues across a 4-shift system, including day-shift colleagues. The role entails frequent work outside of office hours with expectations for independent initiative. Outside standard working hours, Shift Managers cover nominal Lamb Weston (LM) maintenance duties.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Follow all safety procedures, including LOTO (Lock-Off/Tag-Out)
- Ensure workshop and working areas comply with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) policies
- Perform corrective maintenance repairs in a timely manner to reduce mean time to repair (MTTR)
- Complete CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) documentation, including:
- Details of work carried out
- Outstanding work requirements
- Booking of parts used
- Execute small projects as requested by Lamb Weston (LM) management
- Identify reoccurring faults and suggest resolutions
- Present accurate assessments of issues to the Shift Manager and on-shift colleagues as needed
- Companion temporary contractors on shift, issuing relevant permits for tasks
- Conduct preventive maintenance (PPM) inspections, noting and documenting findings, and discussing measures with the Reactive Maintenance Manager, Preventative Maintenance Manager, and Area Engineers
- Initiate RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for failures causing line stoppages (following 5W1H methodology)
- Carry out component overhauls in the engineering workshop as directed by management
- Ensure tooling is properly maintained, documented, and available—completing paperwork if deviations occur
- Follow escalation procedures for out-of-hours issues
- Be the primary point of contact during emergency situations
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by management

Qualifications
- Recognised engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, HNC+ equivalent)
- Highly desirable:
- Lamb Weston chemical safety training
- Health & Safety (H+S) certification
- GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and food safety qualifications

Experience
- 3+ years in maintenance engineering within an automated manufacturing operation
- 2-3 years' experience in automated manufacturing
- Experience with SAP/SCADA systems
