Multi Skilled Engineer
Location: Gateshead Team Valley, UK
Reports to: Engineering Team Lead / Maintenance Manager / Engineering Manager
Direct Reports: None
Biscuit International UK is the leading specialist supplier of own-label gluten-free biscuits and cookies in the United Kingdom. Located in Gateshead, our production facility operates three lines, with an annual output exceeding 4,300 tonnes annually in plain, chocolate, and sandwich biscuit formats. We are part of Biscuit International, Europe’s leading private label biscuit and bread substitute manufacturer, with a rich heritage of over 400 years of expertise in delivering excellent taste at great value.
We’re seeking a Multi Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team in Gateshead and support the delivery of safe, reliable and efficient manufacturing operations.
This role is responsible for delivering high levels of asset care, fault-finding and maintenance support to minimise downtime and enable the site to consistently meet and exceed operational KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Achieve 100% completion of PPMs issued by Engineering leadership
- Take ownership of follow-up actions including ordering spares and planning remedial work
- Escalate risks or delays to the Engineering Team Leader

Breakdowns & Root Cause Analysis
- Complete RCAs for all breakdowns exceeding agreed thresholds
- Lead 5-Why investigations and implement corrective actions
- Support reduction of repeat breakdowns and OEE losses

Asset Care & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain Asset Care workbooks and complete weekly line walks
- Identify and deliver improvement opportunities across the site
- Support correct equipment set-up, shutdown and changeovers
- Complete downtime reporting and maintenance system updates

Health, Safety & Compliance
- Always Work safely in line with site H&S and food hygiene standards
- Support initiatives to reduce waste and improve site performance
- Maintain clear communication with Engineering leadership and Operations
Skills & Experience
- Apprenticeship or Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Strong multi-skilled engineering capability
- Experience in FMCG or food manufacturing environment desirable
- Strong fault-finding, organisational and communication skills
- Conscientious with high attention to detail
- Basic PC and maintenance system literacy
