Role Description

The Multi Skilled Engineer is a full-time, on-site role located at the bakery in Ashton-under-Lyne. This role involves maintaining, repairing, and improving production machinery and equipment to ensure reliable operation and minimal downtime. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
  • Completing safety checks and documentation

The engineer will collaborate with production teams to support efficient workflow, implement continuous improvement initiatives, and help optimize equipment performance for quality and food safety. The role also includes:

  • Monitoring spare parts
  • Coordinating with external service providers where needed
  • Following all health, safety, and compliance procedures

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills relevant to food or manufacturing environments, including fault finding, repair, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience working with production lines, packaging machinery, and associated control systems, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Knowledge of health and safety, food safety, and hygiene standards within a factory setting, and the ability to apply safe working practices at all times.
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with a practical approach to resolving equipment issues under time pressure.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with production, quality, and management colleagues.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, or equivalent in mechanical/electrical engineering or maintenance) and prior experience in a similar multi-skilled role. Understanding of bakery equipment, mixers, Konig plants and packing machinery.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends if required, and a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement and learning.
