Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer
Location: Walsall Salary: £50,000 Industry: Metal Recycling Reference: MMT-DB
Our client, a well-established, family-run metal recycling business showing strong growth within the sector, is seeking a hands-on Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to join their team. This role combines machine operation and maintenance, central to their cable granulation operation.
The ideal candidate will operate the cable granulation machine daily while also conducting preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and fault-finding—ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal downtime. This is ideal for a mechanically and electrically qualified engineer who enjoys a blend of technical troubleshooting and hands-on production work.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the cable granulation machine safely and efficiently on a daily basis.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults promptly.
- Minimate downtime by addressing machine breakdowns quickly.
- Strip down, inspect, repair, and reassemble machine components as needed.
- Monitor machine performance, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Adhere to all health & safety procedures.
- Collaborate closely with production teams to maintain smooth operations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Key Skills & Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong grasp of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proven experience in fault-finding and maintenance within production or heavy industrial environments.
- Capable of operating machinery as part of daily responsibilities.
- Experience in recycling, manufacturing, or heavy industry preferred.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, taking ownership of equipment performance.
- Robust awareness of health & safety standards.
- Reliable, hands-on, and proactive approach to maintenance and operations.

Package & Benefits
- Hours: Monday-Thursday: 07:00–17:00 / Friday: 07:00–16:00
- Salary: £50,000 per annum
- 28 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays)
