Location: THG Labs, Commerce Park, Cornbrash, Frome, BA11 2FN Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts – 6:00 AM–2:15 PM / 2:00 PM–10:15 PM (8h15, 41.25h/week)

About The Role

We’re seeking a proactive, highly skilled Maintenance Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical expertise to join our dynamic engineering team. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing production and site equipment to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency.

As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, including:
    • Conveyors
    • Motors
    • Control panels
    • Automated machinery
  • Diagnosing electrical faults and making repairs safely and in accordance with industry standards.
  • Supporting continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records in our CMMS system.
  • Ensuring Health & Safety, environmental, and quality compliance.
  • Providing technical support and collaborating with production and operations teams.

Responsibilities

Core Tasks

  • Carry out electrical and mechanical maintenance (PPM + reactive).
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults in high-voltage/electrical systems.
  • Regularly inspect and calibrate machinery and instrumentation.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are documented and logged accurately.
  • Contribute to safety culture by maintaining a hazard-free working environment.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

✔ Time-served apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, ONC, or HNC in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineering). ✔ Proven experience in a similar maintenance role within a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment. ✔ Strong electrical fault-finding, with a solid understanding of:

  • PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
  • Sensors & drives
  • Control systems ✔ Basic mechanical skills:
  • Bearings
  • Pneumatics
  • Hydraulics ✔ Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and circuit diagrams. ✔ Problem-solving mindset with an eye for detail and precision. ✔ Flexible, collaborative, and resilient, able to work independently under pressure.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations knowledge.
  • Experience with automated systems, robotics, or packaging machinery.
  • Familiarity with lean maintenance methods (TPM, Kaizen, 5S).
