Compensation: £29,658 (coding, monthly review to £34,419 upon qualification)

About the Role

  • Maintain a safe, compliant, and operationally effective estate
  • Play a vital role in defence infrastructure
  • Access full training and development, including funding for City & Guilds 2377 Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) qualification

Key Responsibilities

As a Multi-Skilled Operative, you’ll support multi-skilled maintenance and compliance functions across facilities, electrical safety, and infrastructure. Daily duties include:

  • Conducting portable appliance testing (PAT) and residual current device (RCD) on site equipment
  • Performing inspections and testing of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
  • Supporting planned maintenance, repairs, and defect rectification by conductive technical staff
  • Identifying infrastructure, equipment, or system defects to ensure operational readiness
  • Adhering to health and safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work, and Babcock’s security protocols

Hours: 36 hours per week, on-site at HM Naval Base Clyde.

Experience Required

  • Multi-skilled maintenance: Support of planned preventative maintenance
  • Defect management: Identification and resolution of equipment, infrastructure, or system issues
  • Facilities/estates experience: Working within facilities, estates, maintenance, or engineering environments
  • Safety compliance: Understanding and adherence to health and safety best practices
  • Team collaboration: Ability to work seamlessly in a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

  • Essential: Demonstrated aptitude in maintenance, compliance, or estates-related activities
  • Desirable:
    • Practical knowledge: Hands-on experience with fire alarm systems or emergency lighting
    • Statutory compliance: Awareness of legal standards in workplace safety
    • Health & safety: Familiarity with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work
    • Full UK driving licence

Security Clearance Requirements

  • Successful candidates must be sole UK nationals
  • Must be capable of achieving and maintaining a Security Check (SC) security clearance as stipulated by the UK’s national security standards
  • Note: Some roles may restrict eligibility based on place of birth, nationality, or residency history. Further guidance available at UK Security Vetting Code of Practice (GOV.UK).
