Job Description
The Vacancy
Full-time: 37 hours per week
Proposed Interview Date: TBC
We have an exciting opportunity for a Multi-Trade Groundworker to carry out a range of fencing and groundworks activities across Saffron Housing Trust's estates and properties, ensuring all external areas are safe, secure, and well-maintained for residents.
Key Responsibilities Include
Operational - Fencing
- Install, repair, and maintain a range of fencing systems (wood, chain-link, palisade, post-and-rail, decorative etc.), gates, and gate furniture to agreed standards.
- Dismantle and dispose of damaged or redundant fencing safely and responsibly.
- Carry out site preparation, including measuring, setting out, groundworks, excavation, installing supports, levelling and reinstating surfaces, and safe use of tools.
- Conduct CAT scanning for underground services before commencing groundworks.
Operational - Groundworker
- Prepare construction sites by clearing vegetation, debris, and obstacles.
- Excavate trenches and foundation areas using hand tools or machinery.
- Install drainage systems, including pipes, manholes, and soakaways.
- Lay kerbs, paving, slabs, and pathways to required specifications.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have
Educations and Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 in Groundworks or Construction (Essential)
- Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cutting (City & Guilds NPTC) (Desirable)
- CAT & genny training (Desirable)
- Full, valid driving license with B + E trailer entitlement or equivalent (Essential)
Experience:
- Previous experience working in groundworks or the construction industry (Essential)
- Practical experience in drainage, foundations, and site preparation (Essential)
- Proven experience in fencing installation, repairs, and associated groundwork (Essential)
- Experience using hand tools and small plant equipment (Essential)
- Experience working outdoors in varying/extreme seasonal conditions (Essential)
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong practical and problem-solving abilities (Essential)
- Good understanding of groundwork methods (Essential)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team (Essential)
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements (risk assessments, manual handling, safe tool use) (Essential)
- Ability to read site plans, measure, and set out work (Essential)
- Excellent time management and ability to prioritise workload (Essential)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills (Essential)
- Able to effectively use mobile technology to manage work activities, communicate, and access organisational systems (e.g., Microsoft Teams) (Essential)

We manage over 6,000 homes, including affordable homes for those in housing need who cannot afford to rent or buy in the open market.
