Multi-Trade Operative
Maintenance Operative – Worksop College & Ranby House
Location: Nottinghamshire, UK Contract Type: Permanent Working Pattern: Full-Time Application Deadline: Tuesday, 14th July 2026

The Role
You will undertake a diverse range of maintenance, repair, refurbishment and construction tasks across our school estate, ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose. This multi-faceted role demands a flexible, hands-on approach spanning multiple trades.
The successful candidate must strictly comply with our Child Protection Policy, actively promoting and safeguarding pupils’ welfare at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Respond to and complete maintenance requests promptly in a professional manner
- Execute planned and reactive maintenance across all school buildings and facilities
- Diagnose and repair faults in internal and external building fabric
- Report defects, hazards and maintenance issues to the Director of Estates
Multi-Trade Duties
- Painting & decorating, including surface preparation and finishing
- Joinery & carpentry repairs, including doors, windows, locks, furniture and fixtures
- Minor brickwork, plastering and patch repairs
- Basic plumbing (taps, toilets, drainage)
- Minor roofing, flooring and tiling repairs as required
- Assist with refurbishments and construction projects across the estate
- General labouring duties, including material and furniture handling

Health & Safety
- Maintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering fully to H&S procedures
- Properly use PPE and check tools before use; remove defective equipment
- Identify and mitigate hazards encountered during tasks
- Ensure all work adheres to relevant legislation and school policies
Estates & Site Support
- Assist with events, functions and room set-ups
- Support the Estates Team with project work and seasonal maintenance programmes
- Organise and maintain workshops and stores in tidy, working order
- Monitor stock levels and report when replenishment is necessary
- Act on emergency maintenance situations as required
Teamwork & Communication
- Collaborate effectively within the Estates Team
- Liaise professionally with staff, contractors, pupils and visitors
- Complete work to agreed timescales and high standards
- Operate independently with initiative, escalating issues appropriately
Safeguarding
- Enhanced DBS check (including Barred List) required—offers are conditional on satisfactory child protection screening.
- Exempt from Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 applicants must disclose all convictions/cautions outside standard DBS filtering.

Desirable Criteria
(Preferred but not essential)
- Trade qualification (e.g., Joinery, Plumbing, Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating or Construction)
- Experience in a school, education or public sector environment
- Knowledge of building compliance and statutory maintenance requirements
- IPAF, PASMA or other relevant maintenance qualifications
Essential Criteria
(Non-negotiable)
- Experience in maintenance, facilities or construction
- Practical skills across multiple trades
- Strong understanding of health and safety obligations
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Problem-solving aptitude and keen attention to detail
- Outstanding communication and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence
