Multi-Skilled Engineer (Void Properties) – Field-Based Role
Are you an adaptable and enthusiastic multi-trade operative looking to make a real impact? We’re seeking passionate Multi-Skilled Engineers with hands-on experience in carpentry, plumbing, and plastering who thrive in a challenging, varied role and want to be part of a high-performing team dedicated to transforming homes and strengthening communities.
About the Role
This is a field-based position within our Empty Homes (Voids) team, where your craftsmen skills will help bring vacant properties back into occupancy—ensuring they meet the highest standards for new residents.
- Diverse responsibilities: From carpentry to plumbing and plastering, you’ll tackle a wide range of repair and refurbishment tasks to restore Void properties to a habitable, high-quality standard.
- Local impact: Operate across your designated patch, entrusted with making hyper-local improvements to homes in Bromford communities.
- Independent yet supported: This mobile role offers autonomy since you’ll work without direct oversight, but you’ll collaborate closely with the team and benefit from their guidance.
- Direct consequence: Each project directly enhances the lifestyles of future residents, making your skills meaningfully visible through tangible outcomes.
Responsibilities
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Performing qualified repairs, renovations and refurbishments across a broad spectrum of work—from structural fixes (e.g., carpentry, plasterwork*) to plumbing, tiling, and electrical innovations (where authorized).
- Advising and liaising with housekeeping teams, housing officers, and tenants on project progress and property safety.
- Striving for efficiency and safety at all times, adhering to risk assessments and work procedures.
- Prioritising variety and excellence: Every property gets your unique blend of skill and attention to detail. No day is the same—problem-solving is your superpower.
- Using company-provided tools and equipment effectively, liaising with management and peers to resolve any challenges.

Requirements
✔ Proven experience in:
- Carpentry (DIY or qualified level): Experience with skirting, wallpapering, door & window repairs, etc.
- Plumbing: Understanding of pipework, joinery, drainage, and regulatory compliance.
- Plastering/dry lining: Correct surface prep, finishing, and coatings for both repairs and new builds.
✔ Qualifications Preferred (or equivalent experience):
- NVQ/SVQ qualifications (Level 2 or 3) in one or more of the above trades (or equivalent trade experience) will strengthen your application and ensure safety compliance.
✔ Essential Soft Skills:
- Self-motivation & reliability: This role favours those who optimise their own outputs without micromanagement.
- Customer focus: Building community trust and providing clear, professional communications in.POST homes and with residents.
- Adaptability: Your film will shift—whether managing the challenges of renting void properties, DIY constraints, or regulatory change.
✔ Logistics & Travel:
- Full UK driving licence (and willingness to master company company van operations).
- Flexibility to travel across a wide area—routine movement to multiple sites daily.
✔ Vital Compliance:
- Willingness to undergo a basic DBS check (paid by Bromford).
- Right to work in the UK for the duration of employment.

Important Notes
- This is a role geographically linked to your assigned patch: Bromford expects you to work locally (or commit to doing so once hired). Early applicants are encouraged, as the role may close early with high turnover.
