Multiskilled Operator – (Industrial Wastewater Treatment)
Job Purpose
To operate, monitor, and maintain ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) equipment and processes to ensure effective treatment of effluent in compliance with regulatory norms. As a multiskilled operator, the role requires handling both operations and maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems to achieve safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Monitoring
- Operate ETP units (screening, equalization, aeration, clarifiers, filters, RO/Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) units, sludge handling, etc.).
- Monitor and control process parameters (flow, pH, COD, BOD, TSS, DO, MLSS), ensuring efficiency.
- Carry out sampling, water quality testing, and maintain log sheets.
- Operate and monitor control systems/SCADA/DCS (Distributed Control System) where applicable.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance (lubrication, pump checks, valve operation, blower inspection).
- Identify and report faults; support breakdown maintenance; assist in preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain tools and equipment in optimal working condition.

Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures for:
- Chemical handling
- Confined space entry
- Equipment operation (as per company BPS policies)
- Ensure compliance with statutory and environmental regulations.
- Report unsafe conditions, near-misses, or incidents immediately.
Housekeeping & Support
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in plant areas.
- Assist in:
- Chemical preparation
- Dosing operations
- Sludge dewatering
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency.
Documentation & Reporting
- Record operational data, maintenance activities, and shift observations in logbooks.
- Report abnormalities, breakdowns, and corrective actions to supervisors.
- Ensure proper handover/takeover at shift change.

Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Instrumentation Engineering – desirable.
Experience
- Preferred: 2–5 years in utility operations
- Desirable: Multiskilled maintenance exposure.
Technical Skills
- Extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment processes.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Pumps, blowers, valves, dosing systems, instrumentation
- Basic troubleshooting of:
- Electrical/mechanical equipment
- Routine lab tests (pH, COD, BOD, TDS)
Soft Skills
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
- Safety-conscious mindset.
- Problem-solving orientation.
- Flexibility to work shifts.
