Music Transcriber - MIDI Specialist

Senior Music Transcriber — MIDI & Notation (Generative Music)

Role Type & Compensation

  • Type: Contract
  • Compensation: $55–$110/hour
  • Location: Remote

Role Responsibilities

  • Transcribe full mixes or provided stems into accurate multi-track MIDI
  • Capture:
    • Pitch
    • Onset
    • Duration
    • Speed (velocity)
    • Harmony/key
    • Modulations
    • Polyphony
  • Follow a consistent MIDI spec, including:
    • Quantization
    • Tempo mapping
    • Drum mapping
    • Pitch bends
  • Work independently and asynchronously with flexible hours to meet deadlines
  • Ensure high-quality symbolic ground truth—one instrument per track, aligned to the audio

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Professional experience in transcription/notation (session work, arranging, engraving, or equivalent)
  • Fluency in a DAW or notation tool (e.g., Logic, Cubase, Reaper, Pro Tools, Sibelius, MuseScore)
  • Ability to transcribe polyphonic, multi-instrument material accurately by ear
  • Strong music theory knowledge (harmony, voice leading) and rhythmic precision
