Company Description

The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA) is a weekend academy offering performing arts training to children and young people aged 4–18. Students attend three-hour sessions, rotating through Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre, and Film & Television, gaining a broad and balanced experience. The PQA model has been developed by professionals from the performing arts industry and the education sector, ensuring high educational value and realistic industry practice. The academy focuses on nurturing creativity, confidence, and performance skills in a supportive, inclusive environment. Team members join a collaborative community dedicated to giving students a high-quality learning and performance experience.

Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site Musical Theatre Teacher role based in Haywards Heath. The Musical Theatre Teacher will plan and deliver engaging weekend classes in singing, dancing, and acting, tailored to different age groups and abilities. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The teacher will provide constructive feedback, help students build confidence and performance skills, and ensure sessions run safely and smoothly. Additional duties include:

  • Collaborating with other academy teachers
  • Assisting with events and performances
  • Maintaining accurate attendance and progress records
  • Upholding PQA’s safeguarding and inclusion standards

Qualifications

  • Strong musical theatre background, with practical experience in singing, dancing, and acting, and the ability to teach these disciplines to young performers.
  • Experience planning and delivering structured lessons or workshops, ideally within performing arts education for children and young people.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage diverse groups of learners.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, support academy events and performances, and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Relevant training or qualifications in performing arts, musical theatre, drama, dance, or education; professional industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety, including willingness to undergo relevant background checks.
  • Availability to work weekend sessions in Haywards Heath and reliability in meeting scheduling and rehearsal commitments.
