Role Summary
Badminton England is seeking an NBL Manager (Maternity Cover) to lead and develop the National Badminton League (NBL). This pivotal role will drive the growth, professionalism, and visibility of the league, ensuring it becomes an exciting, innovative, and inspiring competitive platform that bolsters badminton across England.
The role will involve collaboration with teams, players, volunteers, contractors, and internal teams (Marketing, Communications, Development, Competitions, Commercial) to shape a dynamic, high-quality league experience. Emphasis will be on enhancing the league’s presentation, storytelling, digital reach, and fan engagement—both in-person and via streaming.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the NBL, ensuring a high-quality, professional, and engaging competition.
- Develop and implement the long-term strategy for the league, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
- Collaborate with NBL teams to continuously improve the league’s presentation—experience design, look, feel, and storytelling—both on and off the court.
- Drive innovation in how badminton is showcased, testing new formats, presentation methods, engagement strategies, and broadcast approaches to captivate players, teams, fans, and new followers.
- Design and deliver the NBL Finals, a high-impact, modern showcase event. Lead any other central league events.
- Manage league operations, including scheduling, regulations, venue coordination, and season-long planning, ensuring consistent standards.
- Lead and inspire contractors, volunteers, and the broader NBL workforce, fostering morale and professionalism.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to enhance the league’s brand identity, storytelling, and digital strategy.
- Work with Development to ensure the NBL supports sport growth, participation, and community engagement.
- Integrate commercial partners into league activities to align with business objectives and foster sustainable league development.
- Contribute to the sustainability, commercial success, and future growth of the NBL, including identifying opportunities to support team stability.
- Develop essential framework documents for clear expectations and operational support within the league.

Successful Candidate
We seek an experienced harm الموجέας to lead whom brings:
- Proven experience managing professional/amateur leagues, competitions, or major sporting events at national/regional levels (badminton or other sports welcome).
- A strong grasp of league operations, scheduling, standards, and team support.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate in presentation, enhancing game-day and digital/streaming experiences.
- Creativity and vision to reimagine how sports are marketed and experienced to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong leadership skills to inspire backing and motivate teams, volunteers, and players toward ambitious goals.
- Excellent project and operational management, including handling multistakeholder and high-pressure scenarios.
- Collaborative experience with marketing/communication teams to elevate brand identity, visibility, and audience engagement.
- Understanding of how trade competitions drive participation growth, talent development, and community participation.
- Commercial awareness to support sustainable league or event models.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills across internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Ability to apply data and insights to inform continuous improvement.

Job Details
Title: NBL Manager Reports to: Sport Director Location: National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes (Hybrid: Minimum 2 in-office days, including Thursdays) Contract: Fixed-term Maternity Cover (Temporary) Hours: Full-time - 35.58 hours/week Salary: £34,000 – £39,000 (Dependent on experience)
