National Commercial Manager – UK & Ireland (Advanced Wound Care) (Tendering, Contracting & Value-Based Procurement)

About The Role

We’re seeking a positive, commercially driven National Commercial Manager to lead Convatec’s UK & Ireland Tendering, Contracting, and Value-Based Procurement (VBP) strategy within Advanced Wound Care.

This critical, high-impact role blends:

  • Strategic commercial leadership and prospecting of NHS and private sector contracts.
  • Market access excellence, health economics, and outcomes-based partnerships.
  • Cross-functional collaboration (with Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Finance & Clinical Teams) to drive long-term growth, market share, and patient value.

Key Responsibilities

1. Commercial & Contracting Strategy

  • Design and execute the UK & Ireland tender, contracting, and pricing strategy across all healthcare channels.
  • Own the end-to-end UK/Ireland tender lifecycle:
    • Spot early opportunity signals, shape competitive positioning, and secure successful contract execution.
  • Uphold contract governance, risk, and compliance across all commercial agreements.
  • Optimise contract profitability while balancing client value, market share, and sustainable growth.
  • Lead pricing strategy, financial modelling, and profitable strategy development.

2. Value-Based Procurement (VBP) & Healthcare Transformation

  • Drive Convatec’s Value-Based Procurement strategy, aligning products with NHS priorities (productivity, pathway redesign, and sustainability).
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Medical Affairs to design innovative commercial models and health-economic value propositions.
  • Develop ** Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) frameworks** supported by real-world evidence (RWE) and outcome measurement.
  • Partner with NHS Policy and Stakeholders to influence policy and support cost-saving healthcare interventions.

3. Stakeholder & External Relations Management

  • Build senior-level partnerships with:
    • NHS England, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS Supply Chain, NHS SBS/AHSN, Scotland HSCNI, Ireland HSE (Tendering Committee)
    • Private providers (Providers, Independent Sector Treatment Centres, etc.)
  • Shape procurement strategy through proactive dialogue; represent Convatec in ABHI, SDMA, and UK/EU healthforums.
  • Monitor and influence future NHS procurements, reform, and policy trends (e.g., tariffs, contracting guidance).

4. Market Access & Strategic Partnerships

  • Champion market access campaigns via athenaHealth HUD and Strategic Commercial Managers (to drive innovation in care delivery).
  • Collaborate with Pathway & Strategy teams to identify win-win opportunities for stakeholder care transformation.
  • Develop long-term partnerships with providers to foster sustainable value creation.

5. Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Subject-matter expert on tenders, contracts, VBP, and procurement modelling.
  • Streamline commercial processes using data and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, contract dashboards).
  • Coach commercial teams on tender management, value propositioning,, and pathway engagement.
  • Ensure legal and compliance robustness with cross-functional Support Groups (Finance, Legal).

About You

Essential Standards

Core Expertise (Healthcare Commercial/Procurement): ✔ 8+ years in NHS/UK/Ireland healthcare contracting, tendering, pricing, market access, VBHC, or similar sectors. ✔ Demonstrable track record of securing high-value contracts at regional/national levels, with budget scalability (£2+M in annual revenue frame). ✔ Intellectual understanding of NHS budgeting, funding models _(Clinical Commissioning Groups -> ICB transition)_, and procurement cycles.

Key Skills: ✔ Big-picture negotiation & influence – balancing customer longevity, profit margins, and zero-risk principles. ✔ Analytical mindset: data-informed commercial recommendations and insights stories from financial/clinical data. ✔ Strong collaboration: execute decisions within complex cross-functional teams.

  • Stakeholder relationship experience in Make/tender simplification initiatives (e.g. NHS Single Supplier Models).
  • Past commercial work with provider bed/gluent laboratories (focused on hub & spokes/integration efficiency).
