The Role

To achieve income and profit objectives through the delivery of efficient case underwriting, ensuring that all underwriting decisions align with internal guidelines, appetite and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to achieve division strategy, financial plan, and personal objectives.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Manage cases (renewal and/or new business) in writing within appetite and underwriting authority.
  • Handle referral cases for Underwriters/Apprentices with less experience, adhering to individual authority.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of underwriting decisions.
  • Support the company’s Quality Assurance (QA) procedures by conducting case reviews to ensure compliance with technical procedures and standards.
  • Drive divisional retention, conversion, rate, and loss ratio targets.
  • Strengthen Arch’s national reputation through broking partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with brokers.
  • Use negotiation skills to enhance conversions and broker relationships.
  • Continuously update technical expertise relevant to the role.
  • Collaborate effectively with other parts of the organisation, particularly UKR regional offices.

Requirements & Skills

Skills & Competencies

  • At least 2 years’ experience in underwriting
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Effective sales and selling abilities
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Risk perception and appropriate management
  • Pricing of risk appropriately
  • Ability to develop efficient trading relationships
  • Commitment to consistently achieving goals and objectives
  • Experience working across functions/matrix organisations for collaboration
  • Operational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Clear and effective communication

Qualifications

  • Minimum standard of A-levels preferred
  • Professional Certification (progress towards Cert CII preferred)

Experience

  • Ideally, experience in the Commercial Insurance industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a structured, organised, and planned manner
