Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and collaborative Natural Capital Advisor to contribute to the development and application of natural capital evidence and tools that will support integrated water management from "source to sea". You will help improve how natural capital evidence is used to better achieve outcomes for people and nature.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of evidence and tools that integrate environmental, social, and economic data to support systems-based decision-making across the water environment from "source to sea."
- Practically apply natural capital evidence by collaborating with EA teams and external organisations across water management, flood protection, nature recovery, and sustainable growth.
- Work collaboratively with technical specialists, operational teams, policy colleagues, and external partners to deliver co-designed outputs.
- Communicate insights effectively through technical reports, clear analysis, and accessible visuals.
The Team
You’ll join the Natural Capital and Evidence Synthesis team in the Chief Scientist’s Group. This dispersed team develops natural capital approaches to support decision-making, supporting operational and project teams nationwide.

Experience & Skills Required
Essential
- Applied experience in catchment management, addressing challenges in water management, nature recovery, and flood risk management.
- Strong knowledge of natural capital, systems approaches, and ecosystem services, including wider socio-economic benefits of the water environment.
- Familiarity with nature-based solutions and their contributions to water quality, biodiversity, climate resilience, flood risk management, and societal outcomes.
- Experience working collaboratively across sectors and disciplines.
- Ability to gather and communicate complex environmental data clearly to diverse audiences.
- Data analysis and visualisation skills using tools like Power BI, Excel, and Kumu.
Desirable

Location & Workflex
- Base: EA office (flexible/ hybrid options).
- Travel: Occasional travel or overnight stays may be required.
- Incident Management: Included in development plans.

Additional Notes
Application Process
- Applications are blind-assessed based on competency responses.
- Interviews held via MS Teams within two weeks of closing the vacancy.
- If eligible, details may be kept on a reserve list for 6 months with possible alternative post offers.
Contract Length
- Up to 23 months.
