Navy Command Deputy Travel Manager

About the Role
At Navy Command, we lead, support, and sustain the UK’s Royal Navy across all operations—driving global strategy while upholding heritage and innovation. Your home will be HMS Excellent in Portsmouth, the UK’s premier naval training and headquarters hub.
In this Senior Travel Officer role, you’ll lead the Travel Team as part of the Business Services team, ensuring travel arrangements are efficient, compliant, and cost-effective across Navy Command HQ and outstations.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
Operational Leadership
- Lead and develop a Travel Team, including line management of 3 Travel Officers
- Oversee complex travel requirements, liaising with stakeholders internally (Navy Command) and externally (travel providers)
Process & Policy Management
- Improve travel operations and compliance procedures
- Ensure all travel arrangements adhere to policy while maximising Best Value for Money
- Provide expert travel advice, resolve issues, and uphold MOD protocols
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with diverse teams to align travel support with strategic priorities
- Manage competing priorities while delivering at pace
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for operational enhancements
- Support professional development within the team
Person Specification & Requirements
Experience & Skills
To succeed, you must demonstrate: ✔ Management/supervision experience (e.g., team leadership) ✔ Strong organisational skills, ability to multitask under pressure ✔ Willingness to join an on-call rota when required ✔ Exceptional written and verbal communication with senior stakeholder engagement ✔ Self-direction—ability to work independently with minimal oversight
