About the Role
TWI is seeking to appoint an experienced General Manager to lead a newly established Inspection Qualification Services business unit in Middlesbrough, UK.
The ** responsibilities** include leading a small, specialist team responsible for delivering independent and impartial qualification of non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures, personnel, and equipment across critical safety sectors, including nuclear and defence. All activities align with ISO 17020 requirements.
This is a leadership role focused on establishing and growing the business unit, ensuring technical credibility, maintaining compliance, and building a strong pipeline of work.

Key Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities
- Lead and manage the Inspection Qualification Services business unit, ensuring safe, high-quality, and compliant service delivery.
- Ensure adherence to ISO 17020 standards, upholding independence, impartiality, and technical integrity.
- Manage and develop technical staff in line with TWI values and organizational requirements.
- Collaborate with TWI QHSE to establish, implement, and maintain management systems while supporting accreditation activities.
- Maintain ISO 17020 accreditation, including engagement with auditors and timely resolution of non-conformances.
- Review incoming work to confirm capability and capacity to meet customer requirements.
- Monitor deliveries to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality standards.
- Ensure suitable facilities, equipment, and working environments are in place for qualification activities.
- Proactively develop a pipeline of new business, engaging with potential customers and internal stakeholders.
- Adjust to business needs, supporting the team during peak demand periods.

Travel
This position requires short-term travel within the UK and overseas depending on the demands of client interactions. This is a potential hybrid role, allowing three working days in-office/customer sites, with the remainder working from home.
