The Role
We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager specialising in NEC ECC contracts to join our Flood Defence & Resilience team. You’ll be part of a dynamic group overseeing some of the UK’s most significant flood protection schemes, navigating complex contracts, and delivering high-quality, sustainable outcomes while fostering collaboration across stakeholders.
Focus Areas:
- Project Management: Leading the execution of NEC4/ECC contracts (including contract administration) during the construction phase of water, civil engineering, and utilities projects.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Managing relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and third parties to ensure timely, budgeted, and compliant delivery.
- Risk & Problem-Solving: Resolving technical, contractual, or operational issues with precision, aligning decisions with best practices and key performance standards.
- Progress Tracking & Reporting: Monitoring project milestones, identifying risks early, and reporting clearly to influence operational strategies and business decisions.
- Sustainability & Safety: Advocating health & safety awareness and ensuring Integrated Rural Pearls (IRP)/environmental solutions are achieved.

Project Themes:
Our Resilience team tackles pressing challenges:
- Climate Change & Urbanization: Mitigating risks such as floods, wildfires, and biodiversity loss.
- Infrastructure Protection: Enhancing water resources and maintaining natural ecosystem resilience for future generations.
Key Responsibilities
. Lead NEC ECC Project Governance:
- Administer several NEC ECC contracts per year, ensuring adherence to the Project Manager’s role under the contract terms.
- Provide early contractual advice during construction phases and administer contracts professionally.
. Stakeholder Coordination:
- Collaborate with clients (e.g., government agencies, water boards) and project teams (consultants, contractors) to deliver high standards while meeting contractual deadlines and budgets.
- Facilitate open communication and issue resolution using commercial rigour.
. Risk & Issue Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks proactively, ensuring timely intervention with resources (time, finance, effort).
- Maintain clarity on project status with regular updates to senior leadership.
. Quality & Sustainability Ensurance:
- Oversee projects to achieve well-managed, integrated solutions promoting environmental stewardship.
- Advocate best practices in sustainable development and resilience planning.
. Health & Safety Compliance:
- Foster a culture of safety awareness, ensuring all project practices meet enforceable standards.

Requirements
. Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Project management experience with civil engineering, utilities, water, or infrastructure backgrounds.
- Demonstrable expertise in NEC ECC contracts, including contract administration (NEC3 or NEC4 preferred).
- Civil Engineering or related discipline degree (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with flood risk management principles is a strong asset.
. Key Skills & Certifications:
- Membership of a professional body (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers, RICS, APM, or CIWEM) is advantageous.
- NEC Accredited Project Manager status (NEC3/NEC4) adds significant benefit.
- Ability to manage complex contracts in high-stakes environments.
