Neighbourhood Officer – Fixed Term (12 Months, Full-Time, 37 hrs/wk)

Location & Work Style: Contractually based in our Portsmouth office, with a focus on West Sussex. This is a remote working role, meaning you will primarily be active in the community across your assigned area.

About the Role

As Neighbourhood Officer, you’ll be the main point of contact for customers within your assigned patch. In this role:

  • You’ll act as their trusted advisor on matters relating to:
    • Tenancy conditions
    • Health and safety concerns
    • Rent/service charges disputes
    • Repairs and maintenance
  • Your primary goal is to foster safe, attractive, and sustainable communities while delivering value-for-money services to our residents.
  • You’ll build strong relationships, proactively identify customer needs, and offer tailored support to help maintain their tenancies.
  • When required, you’ll refer customers to tenancy support teams to ensure long-term stability.

  • Provide exceptional customer service, promoting inclusivity and fairness.
  • Resolve challenging customer interactions with empathy and assertiveness.
  • Handle neighbour disputes diplomatically and professionally.
  • Work under pressure with resilience and adaptability.
  • Continuously improve service delivery through feedback and community engagement.

Person Specification

We’re looking for someone with: ✔ A strong customer service focus and experience working with the public, either face-to-face or in a service environment. ✔ Pause-level thinking, able to escalate issues as needed while balancing practical solutions. ✔ Insurance: Basic human understanding and awareness of the social housing sector. ⚠ While housing management/legal experience would be beneficial, we actively welcome diverse candidates with transferable skills. ✔ A proactive self-starter bringing fresh ideas to enhance how we deliver excellent customer experiences.

✅ A full UK driving licence (vehicle access for business use provided, with paid mileage). ✅ Applicability for a satisfactory DBS check. ✅ Experience or commitment to supporting underrepresented or vulnerable communities.


Note: While your primary focus will be a designated patch, there may be occasions when you provide cover in other locations.
