Neonatal Clinical Educator
Clinical Educator – Neonatal Nursing (Clinical Leadership & Development)

The Neonatal Education team is seeking an experienced, registered nurse to take on the role of Clinical Educator, providing clinical, professional, and educational leadership within neonatal services.
About the Role
This full-time role, based at either Furness General Hospital or Royal Lancaster Infirmary, supports the development and sustainability of:
- High-quality, innovative clinical and educational programming within the Surgery and Families Division across:
- Royal Lancaster Infirmary (LNU)
- Furness General Hospital (SCU)
- Westmorland General Hospital
- Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe)
The Clinical Educator will:
- Work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Develop and deliver continuous professional development for neonatal staff.
- Increase the competency and capability of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
- Ensure safe, effective team functioning through structured education and training.
Key responsibilities include:
Education & Training Delivery
- Design and lead a comprehensive programme of neonatal education, including:
- New staff orientation
- New/extended clinical skill roles
- Mandatory training packages
- Medical device training
- Ensure teams acquire the skills to function effectively and safely. -Provide professional development support at neonatal unit and divisional level.
- Keep learning materials current by maintaining alignment with national and local guidance.

Leadership, Organisational & Representational Responsibilities
- Act as a role model for clinical excellence and professional practice.
- Coordinate external training applications in partnership with unit managers and the Lead Nurse.
- Represent neonatal services at ward and divisional meetings.
- Work flexibly across multiple sites (Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital, Queen Victoria Centre and others).
Quality, Advancement & Revalidation
- Identify personal learning needs to support NMC revalidation.
- Keep up to date with practice developments, research, and evolving best practice.
- Contribute to clinical procedure guidelines.
- Liaise with the MDT to align workforce development agendas with quality-and-safety training whether that’s the bespoke in-house educational sessions or trauma/except and OSATS programmes.
Person Specification
- NMC Registration with extensive clinical experience in neonatal nursing.
- Strong emphasis on knowledge and skills in neonatal specialist care.
- A passionate commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Excellent communication and managerial skills.
- Willingness to embrace change, maintain flexibility, and work across hybrid settings.
- Dependencies upon daily travel between multiple sites in Lancashire & Cumbria.

Based in Morcambe Bay Hospital Trust, we deliver care across three main hospitals:
- Furness General Hospital (Barrow) – Key services include Emergency Departments, Critical & Coronary Care.
- Royal Lancaster Infirmary – Full hospital services with A+E, Critical Care, and trained teams.
- Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal) – Includes Urgent Treatment Centre.

- Queen Victoria Hospital (Morecambe) for maternal/infant services.
