Join our Neonatal Surgical Team as a Band 6 Neonatal Surgical Nurse on a 12-month secondment, delivering expert clinical expertise while advancing your career.

About the Role
This role provides an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and experienced neonatal nurse to specialise in the care of surgical neonates. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you’ll enhance your neonatal expertise, leadership, and clinical decision-making within a tertiary neonatal unit.
Your responsibilities will focus on:
- Delivering world-class, family-centred care for surgical neonates and their families.
- Leading on patient management, staff education, and service development.
- Supporting the transition from neonatal to paediatric surgical services.
- Providing high-quality emotional support and clear communication to parents during critical periods.

Main Responsibilities
Core Clinical Duties
- Provide expert assessment, care planning, and evaluation for neonates with surgical conditions.
- Operate autonomously when required — including conducting ward rounds or clinics independently.
- Apply advanced clinical and analytical skills to prioritise complex caseloads efficiently.
- Ensure smooth transitions between neonatal and paediatric surgical teams.
- Support families through surgical decisions, recovery processes, and preparing for discharge.
Leadership & Education
- Actively participate in service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Mentor junior staff, student nurses, and healthcare learners in practice.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (surgeons, paediatricians, therapists) to optimise care pathways.
Person Specification: Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) in the relevant speciality.
- Prerequisite qualification: degree-level (120 L6 credits) OR equivalent specialist training/experience (assessed via portfolio).
- Significant post-registration experience in neonatal/paediatric surgery, including:
- Completion of all Band 5 core competencies (preceptorship).
- Experience of educating/training healthcare professionals and learners in practice.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, accountability, and health service challenges.

Desirable (but Not Mandatory)
- Experience in clinical practice development or change management.
- Confidence in multidisciplinary team working.
