Main duties of the job
Are you an experienced and compassionate midwife committed to reducing health inequalities and improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies and families?
University Hospital Southampton is seeking enthusiastic Band 6 Midwives to join our dedicated Continuity of Carer Teams, working within a caseloading model to support some of our most vulnerable service users.
As a Continuity Midwife, you will provide personalised care throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Working as part of a supportive team, you will develop meaningful partnerships with women, birthing people and families, ensuring they receive consistent, high-quality care from a midwife who knows and understands their individual needs.
Through a case-loading model, you will play a pivotal role in improving outcomes, increasing engagement with maternity services, and delivering equitable, trauma-informed care across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.
Our continuity teams focus on supporting families who experience some of the greatest health inequalities, including those from global majority communities, living in areas of high social deprivation and those requiring additional support due to complex social, emotional or healthcare needs.
Working for our organisation
University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.
Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
