.Net Engineer

** Software Engineer – .NET (C#) / Principal Engineer**

Location: London, Watford, or Bristol (Hybrid working options available)

About the Role

We are seeking engineers to drive our IT transformation and future growth. The focus is on simplifying legacy systems and delivering market-leading software solutions for our colleagues, customers, and advisers.

A key part of the role is making our architecture more strategic, ensuring high-quality, robust software development across design, development, and delivery.


Responsibilities

The Engineer will collaborate closely with:

  • Project Managers
  • Product Owners
  • Architects
  • Business Analysts
  • Testers

Key tasks include:

  • Software development following best practices to meet requirements and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Writing reusable, documented, extensible code with unit tests.
  • Considering non-functional requirements (performance, security, auditing, scalability).
  • Designing and building prototypes, PoCs, and reusable components.
  • Integration with existing systems, including third-party APIs.
  • Facilitating automated testing, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, Octopus Deploy*).
  • Supporting acceptance and technical testing.
  • Problem-solving and completing technical design reviews.
  • Monitoring progress for stakeholders (project managers, team leaders).
  • Contributing to knowledgebase and standard documentation.
  • Mentoring, reviewing code, and participating in pair programming.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Core competencies:
    • Proficiency in C# (preferably .NET 6+), SQL, and API development.
    • Strong understanding of design patterns (SOLID, CLEAN code principles).
    • Experience with API architecture and third-party integrations.
    • Knowledge of GitHub, Octopus Deploy (or equivalent CI/CD tools).
    • Practical experience with deployment pipelines (regular production releases).
  • Technical skills:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Good project prioritisation and time management.
    • Awareness of security best practices.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure PaaS services.
  • Hands-on work with distributed systems (SOA/Microservices).
  • Familiarity with M-Files (reference management system).
