Position Description
The Space, Defence and Intelligence business unit in CGI is a true IT Systems Integrator. Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This position will be based on site near Chippenham 5 days a week.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will design end-to-end network architecture aligned with system and infrastructure requirements, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and optimised for performance across cloud and on-premises environments. You will define standards, patterns, and best practices while guiding implementation to ensure alignment with architectural intent.

You will work closely with engineering and delivery teams to support build and integration activities, ensuring network components are deployed effectively within the wider infrastructure. You will also optimise network performance, address capacity and latency challenges, and embed security-by-design principles, contributing to governance, documentation, and technical assurance.
- Design & define end-to-end network architecture aligned to system requirements
- Establish & maintain network standards, patterns, and best practices
- Guide & support implementation and integration of network solutions
- Collaborate & enable delivery teams to ensure correct deployment
- Optimise & enhance network performance, capacity, and efficiency
- Identify & resolve bottlenecks, latency, and failover challenges
- Embed & enforce security-by-design, including segmentation and encryption
- Produce & maintain high-quality HLDs, LLDs, and architecture diagrams
- Contribute to design reviews, governance, and technical assurance
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
You should have strong experience in network architecture within complex infrastructure environments, with deep knowledge of cloud and on-premises networking, security design, and performance optimisation. You will be confident communicating technical concepts and contributing to governance and design decisions.
- Proven experience in network architecture, ideally within Defence environments
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking and on-premises network design
- Deep understanding of networking protocols and technologies (VLANs, SNMP, VPNs, TCP, BGP)
- Expertise in network security design (firewalls, segmentation, zero-trust)
- Experience with Kubernetes, including VKS
- Ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation
- Strong stakeholder communication and decision-making skills

Desirable
- Experience with software-defined networking and network virtualisation
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for network provisioning
- Experience with network monitoring tools
- Knowledge of SD-WAN and EVPN
