About Third Institute

Third Institute is a student-led international research and analysis network. Most geopolitical analysis available to Western audiences is produced by Western institutions, through Western frameworks, for Western policy purposes. We exist to correct that — publishing rigorous analysis written by people with direct knowledge of the regions they cover, across seven regions: South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Eurasia, the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America.

The role

Network Contributors write for the Analysis section of our website — analytical pieces of 600 to 900 words, published under your own byline. You choose what to write about: you pitch an argument on a region you know well, and work with one of our Analysis Editors to bring the piece to publication.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is a flexible role with no minimum commitment. Some contributors write a single piece; others write regularly. Both are welcome, and there is no set number of places.

What you'll do

  • Pitch analytical pieces on regional politics, foreign policy, or international affairs — an argument, not just a topic
  • Write 600 to 900 words per piece, working to our editorial standard
  • Collaborate with an Analysis Editor through one or two rounds of edits
  • Publish under your own byline, building a portfolio of published analysis

Who this suits

  • Students or early-career professionals in politics, international relations, history, economics, or related fields
  • People with direct regional knowledge — through nationality, residence, study, or sustained engagement with a region
  • Writers who can build an analytical argument: what happened, why it matters strategically, and what it reveals about how the relevant state or actor is positioning itself
  • No prior publication record required — the pitch and the writing are what count
