About this role

You’ll support Capital One UK’s Network Infrastructure ensuring our technologies meet Capital One’s continuously updated requirements. This role will encompass technical analysis, project design/delivery, support of BAU services and contributing to the wider organization. The Engineer will be expected to have excellent Cisco Data Centre or Service Provider knowledge, with experience across infrastructure platforms (AWS networking, Palo Alto, Versa SD-WAN based services). You will work as part of the 24/7 On-Call Rota as required. Some out of hours’ work will also be required.

What you’ll do

  • Drive Operational Excellence: Provide high-tier operational support for our entire network and firewall infrastructure, including participating in the 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Champion Core Technologies: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for at least one core technology platform, driving its future direction through lifecycle refreshes and continuous service improvements.
  • Deliver Change: Execute infrastructure changes driven by technology refreshes, BAU requirements, and strict security compliance standards.
  • Troubleshoot & Document: Rapidly diagnose and resolve complex network incidents while producing high-quality supporting documentation.
  • Manage Critical Partnerships: Build and maintain strong operational relationships with critical third-party suppliers, carriers, and manufacturers.
  • Embrace Agile: Utilize Agile and Kanban methodologies to streamline both project delivery and BAU functions.

What we’re looking for

We know no one matches a job description 100%. Typically, successful candidates will bring a blend of the following expertise:

  • Deep Routing & Switching Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Cisco Enterprise Data Center and WAN components, including Cisco ACI, NX-OS, and BGP.
  • Security & SD-WAN Proficiency: Robust technical knowledge of network security infrastructure, specifically Versa SD-WAN and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Cloud Networking Savvy: A solid understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) connectivity, including Direct Connect, Transit Gateways, VPCs, and Security Groups.
  • Network Automation & Innovation: Experience embedding network automation into production environments and driving an "automation-first" approach to network management.
  • Network Diagnostics & Monitoring: Demonstrated proficiency using enterprise monitoring and diagnostic tools, specifically Logic Monitor, Netbrain and Wireshark to troubleshoot and maintain infrastructure
  • Vendor & Framework Experience: Proven ability to work effectively with virtual teams and varied third-party supplier models using Agile/Kanban frameworks.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham Office. We have a hybrid working model which offers you the flexibility to work from our offices and from home, when you need to. You’ll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Many of our associates have flexible working arrangements, and we're open to talking about an arrangement that works for you.
