Meta is looking for an Optical Deployment Engineer
Meta is looking for an Optical Deployment Engineer who will be responsible for the deployment and support of one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in projects related to implementation & scaling of the optical network at Meta. The role requires an engineer with experience adapting to evolving network architectures and deployment timelines. An engineer who identifies and proposes improvements to existing processes and develops practical solutions to operational challenges. As an Optical Deployment Engineer, you propose new ideas, gather constructive feedback from others, and push forward to make these ideas a reality.
Optical Deployment Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production optical network that spans ULH terrestrial, regional metros and subsea networks, interconnecting data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites across EMEA
- Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities
- Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware/software and create optical standards for network deployment teams
- Reviewing acceptance documents provided by vendors and subcontractors deploying equipment on our network
- Plan, schedule and perform network maintenance, repair and upgrade tasks as needed
- Work closely with Network Engineering, Logistics and equipment vendors & fibre providers to ensure seamless introduction of new optical technologies into the production network
- Provide technical expertise to network provisioning engineers for troubleshooting out-of-service or faulty circuits
- Create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for metro, regional, long-haul DWDM systems and Subsea SLTE systems
- Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolve

This role will involve some pre-planned travel from time to time
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying optical networks
- Experience with optical network design, installation and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks
- Experience with field-based work on POPs, carrier hotels, data centers and central office environments
- Proven experience leading and executing optical network deployment and migration projects
- Experience interacting with vendors and external parties to drive projects to timely completion
- Experience creating rack elevations and other planned/install/as-built documentation
- Knowledge of data center design and deployment best practices
- Understanding of DCN Networks
- Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systems
- Experience with optical test equipment and optical troubleshooting experience using OTDR, BERT, and optical power meters
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Experience analyzing situations, utilizing systems and tools, and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Effective time management and organization
- Experience in the planning and execution of Subsea SLTE projects
- Experience working in a global team environment
- Experience of communicating and coordinating tasks with carriers remotely
