Network Engineer

Network Engineer Aberdeen, UK // Permanent

Overview

The Network Engineer will work in an outsourced environment for a Global client based in Aberdeen, focusing on the provision and refresh of network gear across multiple global sites.


Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, and deliver solutions to a defined design specification.
  • Demonstrate understanding of LAN, WAN, firewall kit (Fortigate, Palo Alto, Cisco hardware), and broader IT interdependencies.
  • Collaborate within a broad discipline project team to provide technical delivery and solutions.
  • Contribute to the technical design of new solutions, working closely with IT Architecture teams on standardisation and application of technology.
  • Complete standardised technical documentation.
  • Execute practical aspects of testing new hardware and solutions.
  • Maintain interest in wider technologies and interdependencies.
  • Travel globally, approximately 30 days per year.
  • Act as a 3rd Line Escalation point for major incidents, troubleshooting, and outages relating to business-as-usual services (aligned with service-level expectations).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education/Expertise
    • Degree level IT education, or equivalent experience.
    • CCNA and CCNP certification (or actively pursuing these).
    • Relevant experience in network support or project delivery within the discipline.
    • Knowledge of industry standards and current technology trends.
    • Understanding of IT operational risk management, project delivery methodologies, and service standards (e.g., ITIL, ISO).
