Recruiter: Luke Byrne Career Grade: D

About The Role

In Networks, our mission is to deliver excellent converged services over the best network—personal, simple, and enjoyable to use. As part of the Data Centre Team, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the BT core network and firewall systems.

BT’s core operations depend on a securely functional network. As a Network Interconnect and Firewall Specialist, you’ll ensure the network remains operational 24/7, meeting customer expectations and protecting against security risks.

This role is critical in maintaining BT’s Network Management Systems Security (NMS) posture. You’ll proactively identify security vulnerabilities, escalate concerns, and reduce business risks—while also providing rapid, effective responses during operational threats.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring BT’s complex architecture, applications, and services adhere to security best practices.
  • Balancing business demands with minimising risk—helping protect BT’s brands, reputation, and critical operations.
  • Supporting connectivity technologies across the BT estate, including external networks.
  • Deciding, with minimal ambiguity, on solutions that mitigate security risks without impeding key business functions.

The role requires flexibility, as unsuccessful outages result in trusted reoccurrence protocols and SLA-driven restorations of service. You’ll also be part of a US rotational on-call roster, including occasional out-of-hours work.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be accountable for operational service delivery, handling both proactive risk management and reactive incidents across BT’s network and firewall estate.

Core Responsibilities:

Service Delivery & Incident Management

  • Proactively identify security gaps, take action to mitigate risks, and assess risk appetite.
  • React quickly in a crisis, minimising Business Impact while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Lead incident investigation and resolution, ensuring full restoration of services within SLA requirements.
  • Develop and execute preventive solutions to avoid future reoccurrence.
  • Make real-time decisions under pressure, balancing speed and risk mitigation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
