Waste Network Regional Customer Lead – Severn Trent

About the Role

Our Waste Networks department is seeking a Waste Network Regional Customer Lead to drive significant £100k+ operational value across key performance areas, including:

  • Customer metrics: C-Mex, sewer blockages, flooding, and pollution response
  • Operational excellence: Leading teams and ensuring high standards of output and customer commitment

The role is based at our Minworth site (Sutton Coldfield), covering Derbyshire and the Central East Midlands. Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership: Providing decision-making input to improve business and customer outcomes
  • Team leadership: Managing a multifunctional team (suppliers, contractors, staff) to operate assets efficiently and safely
  • Budget responsibility: Overseeing a £30m operating budget
  • Stakeholder relations: Building strong partnerships with:
    • Local Flood Authority
    • Environment Agency
    • Councils
    • NGOs & Highways Authorities
  • Health, safety, and wellbeing: Ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of protection for employees and customers

Key Responsibilities

As the Regional Customer Lead, you’ll oversee the following critical areas:

Operational Delivery

  • Be the overall custodian of assets in your region, ensuring effective and efficient performance.
  • Lead supplier and quality management, guaranteeing adherence to Severn Trent standards.
  • Ensure third-party contractor relationships meet performance targets.
  • Enhance the customer experience during all Severn Trent works through strategic oversight.

Stakeholder & External Engagement

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (e.g., regulators, councils) to align performance with strategic priorities.
  • Manage external communications on incident responses and improvements.

Risk & Incident Management

  • Protect the environment: Align with EPA 4-star metrics, driving pollution prevention and reduction.
  • Address waste and flooding incidents promptly, minimising risks and maintaining stakeholder trust.
  • Lead improvement initiatives, including workplace safety and root-cause analysis.

Performance & Culture

  • Develop and reward high performers, while addressing underperformance to sustain excellence.
  • Drive transformation and change to optimise operational efficiency.
  • Develop talent: Foster a performance-driven culture across all levels.

Requirements & Qualifications

Severn Trent is looking for individuals with:

  • Proven track record in leading sustained performance improvements across diverse workforces, both direct and indirect.
  • Demonstrated success in customer-centric leadership, commercial thinking, and health and safety excellence.
  • Experience in developing teams, recognizing talent, and aligning organisational goals.
  • A UK driving licence for fieldwork-based travel.
