Network Support Engineer

Network Support Engineer – Security Services Engineer

Location: Scotland (occasional travel to Edinburgh office) Schedule: 4-day week (rotating shifts, including nights/weekends) Salary: Up to £65,000

About the Role

As a Security Services Engineer, you’ll proactively protect live production environments from DDoS attacks and other network threats. This role involves hands-on, high-pressure collaboration with customers during critical incidents, making it perfect for technical professionals eager to develop deep expertise in cybersecurity, networking, and incident response.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1st/2nd line IT support, triaging and resolving security incidents and customer tickets in a live production environment.
  • Monitor, analyse, and investigate network traffic and emerging threats, including active DDoS attacks.
  • Support customer maintenance, upgrades, and technical communications.
  • Contribute to incident response and post-incident reviews, helping refine detection and mitigation strategies.
  • Work within ITIL frameworks (Incident, Change, Problem, Service Requests), documenting procedures and improving the SOC knowledge base.
  • Continuously develop skills in cybersecurity, networking, traffic analysis, and automated incident response.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years’ experience in SOC, IT support, networking, or related technical roles.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, packet analysis)
    • Troubleshooting techniques
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, stay organised, and communicate clearly under pressure.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, shift-based environment, including nights and weekends.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SIEM tools (preference for Splunk).
  • Working knowledge of DDoS attacks and network security concepts.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies (e.g., KVM, ESXi).
  • Basic Linux and scripting/automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Industry certifications including:
    • CCNA
    • JNCIA
    • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+
    • CySA+
    • CyberOps
