The Role
This post is suitable for an Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist or registered Nurse.
You are required to be HCPC/NMC registered (or relevant professional body), have relevant experience in neurodevelopment assessment, diagnosis and support strategies. As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to fulfil the key functions of the Neurodevelopmental Service.
In particular, the post-holder will be responsible for the assessment, formulation, and diagnosis of a range of neurodevelopmental conditions and will recommend, implement and evaluate complex programmes of care that proactively involve the person and their carers and optimise self-management for children and young people (0-18 years) and their families. This post also provides pre-diagnosis supports/consultations across the multi-agency settings and education settings. Training and support for your professional development will be provided, and we are committed to regular supervision, both uni-professional as well as part of multi-disciplinary teams, to support reflection, and evidence-based practice.
It will be an advantage to have experience of assessment and intervention for children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences. The post holder is required to undertake duties without direct supervision as well as supporting and supervising work undertaken by registered and unregistered Health Care Support Workers. The post-holder is responsible for proactively promoting partnership working with patients, carers and other professionals/agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies. This involves working in a variety of clinical/home/near to home community environments.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
This exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team in West Dun Locality team for specialist children services on a permanent basis with the focus of the post on supporting neurodevelopmental assessment and intervention and working across ND pathway.
This is permanent part-time post of 21.6 hours per week.
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.
This will be based at the acorn centre in the Vale of Leven hospital Alexandria.
The shift pattern for this post is 3 out of the 5 working days Monday-Friday. No weekend working or shifts.

Key Responsibilities
- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of the practitioner’s professional activities
- To be responsible and accountable for assessment of a range of neurodivergent profiles, supporting the development, management and implementation of patient care programmes and specialist patient care packages within the ND service and to input to board wide care programmes
- To co-ordinate intervention that may include other disciplines; advises and educates patient/carers/relatives/other health professionals
- To work closely with teachers and support staff within the Education department to ensure that the child is assisted to achieve both therapeutic and educational targets by setting joint targets and inputting into Children’s Plan
- To provide ND Service input as lone practitioner in Clinic, patients home, nursery, primary and secondary schools both mainstream and special school locations as required
- To manage clinical risk within own caseload and that of designated team at all times
- To use specialist knowledge to refer to other health disciplines as appropriate
- To carry out duties/tasks to support the patient care pathway as delegated by the Neurodevelopmental Clinical Coordinator
- Apply national guidelines and legislation, relating to health and social care, including child protection guidelines in order to ensure effective clinical practice and adherence to SCS governance standards
- Maintaining professional standards of practice as set by the HCPC, NMC or relevant.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications, and/or Experience Required to Do the Job:
- Registered nurse, Allied Health Professional, or equivalent profession
- Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent
- Registered with your own professional body
- Advanced knowledge of neurodiversity and various neurodevelopmental profiles
- Advanced knowledge of normal child development
- Experience of service development in both design and application
- Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance, including quality, audit and risk management
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Evidence of Clinical Supervision / reflective practice as a supervisor
- Specialist knowledge of rights, values-based practice and legislation frameworks
- Evidence of using digital technology / information systems / email and basic applications
- Experience of working in the community environment
- Experience of care coordination
- Experience of line management responsibilities
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritise workload, delegate appropriately, and adapt to meet person-centred care without direct supervision
- Ability to form therapeutic professional relationships with others and work as part of a wider team
- Ability to undertake a number of clinical contacts in a home or near-to-home environment on a daily basis, which may involve driving
