Position Description

Position Title: Neurosurgery Unaccredited Registrar

Employment Type: Temporary, Full time

Classification: Registrar

Salary: $125,473 – $155,223 (per annum)

Location: Canberra Hospital, Garran, ACT

Section: Surgery

Closing Date: 2 August 2026

About the Role

Applications are being sought for the 2027 clinical year, commencing in February 2027 for a period of 12 months, with possible extension.

To be eligible to apply for this position, you must be PGY4+ by February 2027.

Role Details:

The Canberra Hospital’s Neurosurgical Department handles the full range of adult neurosurgical conditions and currently includes:

  • Six consultant neurosurgeons
  • Two SET trainees
  • Three unaccredited registrars
  • Three junior medical officers (JMOs)

The department also features a dedicated neurosurgical ward, including a high dependency area. Approximately 600 surgical cases are performed annually.

Additional Opportunities:

  • Excellent teaching program available

  • Experience in operative neurosurgery

Before commencing, the successful candidate will undergo:

  • Pre-employment national police check
  • Compliance with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy
