This is an exciting opportunity to join a team providing Newborn Hearing Screening for babies across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the rural West of Dorset. We are looking to recruit either existing screeners wishing to work within the Dorset service, or individuals new to screening who have an interest in working with families with newborn babies.
We wish to recruit to a 25-hour post, worked over 5 days between Monday and Friday. The hours will be 9:00am to 2:00pm each day.
You will join a small team of nine people who work closely together to ensure we deliver this important screening service to all new babies in Dorset. Although we work remotely, travelling directly from home to community clinic locations each day, we maintain close communication using a range of digital resources as well as the telephone. We pride ourselves on having a responsive support system in place and a strong team ethos.
Please note visa sponsorship for this role is unfortunately not available. Please ensure you hold valid right to work in the UK and will not require sponsorship if successful.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.
Key Responsibilities
- To deliver Newborn Hearing Screening to babies in community settings across Dorset, including a small number of home visits.
- To deliver screening in line with national programme standards.
- To communicate effectively with parents and families, providing clear information and reassurance throughout the screening process.
- To ensure accurate and timely recording of screening outcomes using relevant IT systems.
- To travel independently to community locations, working autonomously while maintaining close communication with the wider team.
- To support the administrative function of the team, including arranging appointments for families.
- To complete a Level 3 Screening Diploma as well as ongoing professional development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
