Apple News is the most innovative news aggregation app, providing millions of users with a part-curated, part-personalised news feed from the world’s best publishers. Apple News+ offers hundreds of magazines and leading newspapers in one subscription. We are looking for an experienced news editor to help take our coverage of breaking news, sport and features to the next level. Applicants should have a strong sense of the news landscape in the UK, a keen interest in journalism, awareness of the big running stories – and an eye for a snappy headline. You should also have a keen appreciation of what makes good features journalism: what readers want in a story, and what they would be prepared to pay for. Candidates should be prepared to work flexibly across early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends.

Description
- Curate news, features and sport coverage from Apple News publishers daily, with a focus on quality writing, in-depth reporting and accuracy.
- Write sharp, clean and engaging copy in the Apple News voice.
- This includes formulating headlines in ways that highlight the most engaging angle of a story, and crafting notifications that feel relevant, responsible – and unmissable.
- Explain and provide context around complex news stories, often on tight deadlines.
- Create high-profile packages around key news moments and major issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- You have strong editorial judgement and excellent headline writing skills.
- Sub-editing experience would be a bonus.
- You have experience with curating breaking news for a national or international audience.
- Experience working at a magazine, newsroom or digital platform.
- A deep familiarity with the UK and US media landscape – and major writers and journalists.
- You’ve worked in a variety of CMSs and social-media platforms, and have a keen understanding of the tools that support state-of-the-art editorial.

Preferred Qualifications
- You are fluent with data and analytics, and can responsibly incorporate user behaviour into your editorial strategy.
- You have a keen feel for local news, and which publishers are strong across the various cities and regions of the UK.
- You have experience covering big moments in sport.
