An opportunity has arisen to join our award-winning editorial team at The BMJ as a News Reporter.
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic reporter to help deliver timely, accurate, and impactful stories for The BMJ, one of the world’s most respected medical journals. You will have a portfolio of work, published in the last 12 months, and recent experience working in a digital and print newsroom.
This is a key role within our news team. You will be responsible for producing compelling news articles for our website and print publication, breaking your own original stories, as well as monitoring a wide range of news sources to ensure we stay ahead of the curve on developments relevant to our audience. This includes a strong understanding of research and clinical news. The job will also involve reporting on topics including major policy announcements and pay negotiations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Writing and filing breaking news stories on tight deadlines
- Monitoring news sources and pitching unique angles for coverage
- Liaising with editors and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance
- Contributing to The BMJ’s commitment to clarity, balance, and evidence-based reporting

About you:
- NCTJ trained, or equivalent qualification
- Proven experience in health or science journalism
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce accurate copy at speed
- A keen news sense and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Confidence in engaging with clinical research, medical experts, and complex data
